According to Moore’s law, the improvement in technology will result in reducing the power consumption and cost involved and on the parallel increase the performance of processors, SoC semiconductor powered devices such as processors in PC, smartphones and tablets.

What is Haswell Architecture?

Haswell is the latest 22nm architecture used in fourth generation Intel Core-i processors. Haswell powered processor chips will have a powerful CPU, much better integrated GPU.

10% Improved Performance – 50% Lower Power Consumption – 2 Times Better Graphics (Iris, Iris Pro) – Better Overclocking.

Lower Power Consumption:

Apart from being able to deliver higher performance in terms of system computation and graphics rendering, Haswell processors will consume much lower power than it’s predecessors i.e, Ivy Bridge. Not just low but a huge step down in power usage as much as 50%, this will directly impact the notebook and ultrabooks since their battery will last longer due to less power hungry processor chip. This reduction of power mostly comes from idle state processes, so when your machine is in sleep mode or in idle state, Haswell processors will consume very low power.

Another reason it will improve battery performance of laptop platform is that the Iris based enhanced graphics will play a major role in delivering cutting edge video rendering right from the processor and will cut down the need of dedicated graphics card (for average gamers), so this means there will no power use for a separate GPU.

Intel Focusing on Going Mobile:

Enhanced graphics performance in Haswell processor clearly explains where Intel is heading. There is massive flow of consumers towards mobile devices, that includes smartphones, tablets, ultarbooks and notebooks. Currently ARM and Apple are among the two giants who has captured the smartphone and tablets market. Apple with its A6 CPU chip (for iPhone and iPad) and ARM with Cortex family of CPU chips (mostly for android powered tablet and smartphone devices). Both Apple and ARM delivers SoC that has APU (accelerating processing unit) that incorporated both CPU and GPU. So in order to capture this vast market, Intel worked on improving the graphics performance so that they can ship devices that will run from single SoC chip that will handle system computation as well graphics-intensive apps such as 3d video games.

Better Overclocking With Haswell CPU:

Haswell Microprocessors will turn out to be great match for gamers who seek an easily tweak-able processor for getting higher clockspeed rates. A demonstration of Intel Core i7-4770K haswell chip was overclocked to give a mind blowing 7.01 GHz core frequency, though the base core stocked by Intel was at 3.5GHz, this is almost 50% increase with overclocking.
